I'm getting Vandersteen speakers..2Ce fronts, upgrade center, Sub and 2 for back.
Is the 1050..the right PreAmp choice? Do I need another amp with this?
Thanks for any suggestions..I'm an Amp novice.

Well the 1050 is a stand alone receiver, but it will work wonders on your speakers. This is a good deal for $500 bucks!

The 1050 has much more power that it's rating implies. I don't think you will need an amp. I have ineffecient speakers and still do fine with the 1050 alone. You can always add the amp later.

The room is 16 x 20...seats will be 13 feet from speakers...one side of room is open to dining area...next to speakers/system (inset in wall) are walk ways on both sides.

Well it seems like you are going to get aproximately 95db's peak at your main seat,Dolby Digital peaks are at 105 db's with out the sub,and anywhere between 115 to 121 db's with the subwoofers. Now your speakers would sound very, very sweet with this 1050,but I would suggest thinking in up grading latter on to maybe the mono blocks 200,at least for your 3 front channels. If you do not play your movies at Dolby reference levels, you may get by with the 1050 amp, assuming that you set them to all to small and use a subwoofer , if you upgrade to the 7100 you will only be getting an extra 3db's of head room, not too many people play their movies that loud!!And since you are getting a sub, that would make all the difference!!!!Good luck with your system, and I am sure you will love the sound of your Vandersteem's with the 1050 Outlaw;you will hear things you never heard before, very different to your present system.Vandersteen Speakers are very unique clean and accurate to the source....They will not blow you out of the room at rock & roll levels, but they make your music come to life.

Yes he took some time to explain somethings and the reasons why he design his speakers the way he does,Mr.Vandersteen is pretty much set on his philosophy for surround sound, and it works....
