I am going to hook up the 950 to a carver 705 5 channel amp for starters. I have a older klipsch powered sub with only high level inputs ( speaker level inputs ). How do I go about hooking the sub in with the rest of the speakers with the 950 and 705. Right now I have a sony receiver and I have to run the speaker wires from the receiver to the sub and then another set back to the front speakers. The sub only has inputs for the front speakers. I think I still run the speaker wires the same with the 950 -705, but I'm not sure. Right now I would like to keep the sub and integrate it in with the new system, since it still works well. After purchasing the above items I really would like to wait on spending any more right away, but I am planning on upgrading the sub in the future. Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

A powered subwoofer should have a line-level input on it -- if all that it has is speaker input/output for the left and right speakers, with no power cord or line input(s), then it sounds a lot like an unpowered sub. In this case, you will need to do exactly what you describe: speaker wires from the left and right main outputs of the Carver 705 to the inputs on the sub, then speaker wires from the outputs of the sub to the main speakers.

The sub is powered and it only has speaker level inputs. It doesn't have the line level inputs that today's subs have. I would like to keep this one for a while until I purchase a new one sometime in the future. Yhanks

I think if you set the 950 to "no sub" and the fronts to "large," that all your bass, including LFE, will get directed there. Then you can set the appropriate crossovers for your center and surrounds, and have the sub's built-in crossover pull out the LFE and the bass from the rest of the speakers.
