I'm interested in what some of the other beta testers have to say, but thus far it sounds like just what we've been waiting for. Now about those other three products...?

Quiet around here this morning. It looks like everyone is off reading 950 beta tester stuff here , or here at the moment. (Or perhaps here .) ------------------ Gonk[This message has been edited by gonk (edited February 12, 2002).]

It sure is Gonk. Thanks for the links guys. I'm not planning on buying the 950 (enjoying my 1050 for now) but I do love reading the feedback on the Beta units. We've heard from hometheaterforum and now its time to here from the Saloon. It's time to fess up! Who are the Beta testers around here? Anyone...Anyone...Bueler? Richard

DTS-ES Discreet is not listed in the review on HTF. Outlaw wouldnt' have dropped that one would they (oh no!). Think he just got tired of typing all the versions?

-- just started reading a post from beta tester #5 at the bottom of this page; he's the MC-12 guy, and seemed pretty impressed with the 950. He's still getting familiar with it, but seems to rate it as very, very close sonically... damn, that's impressive... ------------------ Gonk

If you haven't had a chance to go digging through the forums for all of the beta tester comments, a member at HTF did some gathering in this thread there . It has all of the beta tester comments (excluding answers to individual questions) in one place. You may want to also check out beta tester #3's thread here, as I'm not sure all of his comments appear in the HTF thread (last I checked, two of his posts hadn't made it to the HTF thread). You can also see pictures of Robert Fowkes's setup here . ------------------ Gonk

I'll go on record as saying that the 950 exceeds THX ultra standards - at least to my ears, which are the final judge as far as I'm concerned. RAF Dear Outlaw, I know you have the tremendous task of 'moving them doggies out' ahead. But I hope you took time to s m i l e today, when you read that one! Congrats Outlaws!

Since I am (slowly) learning. I knew that statement was high praise. Recently, I vaguely assumed ‘THX’ was a sound decoder, have learned with time, it is a ‘standard’. Build quality, certification for hardware/software specs on how the sound is passed, the ultimate bar being a certain ‘experience level’ out of the total pkg. If I remember correctly, that beta tester has a fully THX compliant system. So although ‘sound’ is the end quantifier, he means a whole lot of complimentary things when he writes that sentence. Very nice!

THX can also be restrictive some times... requiring dipole surrounds, fixed 80 Hz crossover, etc.
