I really like what I have read about the Outlaw 1050, and had decided to buy one (actually Santa was going to buy it)until I discovered the Marantz SR-5200.
If you put all the facts/features on paper, the Marantz seems to come out ahead, especially with the DPLII.
Now I bring this up here, because in my heart I really want the Outlaw, but my brain keeps jumping in and saying "DPLII, buy the Marantz".
I have listened to the Marantz at a local audio shop and it does not disappoint. I suppose living in Canada and shipping the Outlaw up here, paying taxes, EXCHANGE, duty, shipping, I am a little hesitant to just try it.
Someone please give me a good reason to go with the 1050 rather than the SR-5200.

Simply - sound quality - for music, sure. but if it's great for music that means you're getting the SOUND TRACKS right TOO!

What were you demo'ing on the Marantz? My recommendation to you is take in some music that you are familiar with. Something classical with a lot of strings works well. Like mikehorvath has suggested, getting the music right means that your movies will sound right as well. Music is much more difficult to reproduce accurately. The 1050 sure does a bang up job in my home and I would recommend it highly to anyone in that market.

Also, I don't know how Marantz marks their power ratings, but I'm pretty sure that the Outlaws provide ratings for actual power perceived at full loading, not just the max capability of the unit with no load. This explains why everyone is always so amazed that a unit with such a "low" power rating always sounds SO good. If I'm mistaken there, someone please pull my head out. But assuming I'm right there, more power for the speakers means not just more volume, but more clarity as well.
