Is anyone else disappointed to learn that the 950 will come with a non-learning remote? Everything else seems to be so top-notch on this unit that I'm surprised to see them skimp on the user interface with the unit.

I just looked at the FAQ sheet on the 950 and it says "8 device remote with learning capabilities".

Great. I hope that's true. I saw Brian's post that they confirmed that it was a Home Theater Master SL-8000 which doesn't learn. I have the SL-9000 now and I think it's the best remote on the market. I hope that's what they're using.

Scott said it was a "derivative of the SL 8000" to be exact, and they do list it as being a "learnig remote" so maybe it was ordered with some features of the 9000.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm very glad to hear that. Like I said, everything on this unit seems to be top notch, and I'm glad to include the remote in that. I get more excited every day as we get closer to a release.

I know what you mean, I feel the same way.My current H/K has a 8000 remote that does not control my DVD very well and will not operate the PIP on my TV at all do to the fact that it wont learn.Counting the days!!

Exactly. I use an HTPC for my DVD player, so I have a wireless keyboard that I have to teach my remote with to control the DVD player. As you can imagine, there aren't any codes for that.

I just wish I knew how many days to count.

The 950 remote will in fact be a learning remote. I misstated earlier that it was a derivative of the SL 8000 when in reality it is a derivative of the SL 9000. Sorry!

Thanks for the confirmation. I had hoped that was the case.

Great choice on the remote. Like I said, I think it's the best remote on the market. I can't tell you how happy I am that I won't have to give it up when I sell the Ref. 20.
