My 1050 is plenty of power w/96db speakers, but would it be enough w/88db Rocket 750's? The Rocket owners seem to be power hungry...Would this be the motivation to step up to the 950/770?

An internet pure play of 950/770 + Rockets + SVS seems like a pretty good system....especially if the Rockets can live up to their comparison as better than or similar to Paradigm 100's and Sonus Faber Grand Pianos and Vienna Beethovens.

Anyone ever heard the Rockets? How about Magnepan vs Martin Logan? Would the 1050 drive the power hungry Martin Logans? 90db in a 20'x15' room.

The 1050 price and performance seems to be my sweet spot...so I can afford other things.

Well, as it turns out one of the original 1050 owners should be able to shed some light on the question of powering Rocket RS750's with a 1050 - psklenar has that very setup in his listening system.

From what I've heard, the system you described would certainly be a good one. I haven't had a chance to hear the Rockets, though.

Magnepan owners tend to be very fond of them, as do ML owners, but I would recommend going out and listening to them. I seem to recall that a few people have paired up Magnepan and the 1050, but I haven't heard of it being done with Martin Logans. The only person I know who owns them runs a Classe CA-101 (100Wx2) to drive a pair of Aeons.

I am have Nautilus 805 & HTM2 speakers which are also 88db and the 1050 handles them just fine.

My Proac Clones are 86db and the 1050 handles them just fine. I had the 1050 up to 75 on the volume control (not 75db) and it was louder than anything I've heard before and I didn't hear any distortion. (My sub amp pooped out though trying to keep up.)

Wow..75 on the dial...I haven't turned mine up past 60...usually never past 50. I guess that the difference in effeciency. It's good to hear the 1050 has some room left if I ever mated it with less effecient speakers.

I am usually at 45-50 for CD's and most DVD require 50-60. 75 is very loud for my system even with my inefficient speakers.

Hoot's,

I'm using the 1050 in a stereo setup with a pair of Rocket 750's. While I do feed the TV sound through them, this is my primary music listening system - radio (both over the air and internet based), CD, SACD and DVD-A.

When I'm alone, I usually have the volume set to between 40 & 45 and that pair of RS750's just sounds sweet. When I have company, or if the dishwasher is running, I may knock it up to 50 or 55, but very rarely have I felt any need to go louder than that. The 1050 drives these speakers quite well.

I will be honest, I am planning to buy a pair of M200 amps for the system, but I'm not really sure how much of a difference I'm going to notice. I expect my average volume setting will be lower (maybe 30-ish?), but since I haven't heard any obvious compression or "lack of omph" ... ... it's more of a case of I like the idea of extra power and I'm getting a darn good tax refund this year due to the house I bought last year.

i have the exact set up you asked about. 4 750's, the 200 center, an SVS 16-46 pc+, with the 1050's. i like it alot. the 1050 seems to drive things without a hitch.

enjoy!
