Other than, if some is good, more must be better. My philosiphy in construction is "anything worth building is worth over bulding in quality". How do you diside what you need for subs. One or two. One #1 two #1s, two #2s, one #2 & one #1. I have a room that is 15x24 with 10'ceiling average 3600 cu.ft. I want subs for movie/7.1 audio. Has anyone used the Velodyne sms-1 with a LFM-1 to equalize their room. Is the set up of the LFM-1 such that you really don't need to use the sms-1 unless you have a problematic room. Are there other ways to evaluate your room and make changes in it with a piece of equipment you might rent or doesn't cost $599. Other than trial and error I am not sure how to approach this. Any direction, please.
Thanks again Brad

I've also been considering the SMS and have been researching other room correction systems. My listening room has some rather peaky bass behaviour due to the placement of windows, oddly shaped wall-unit shelving, lots of stone, and a hardwood floor. For the money, the SMS seems like a pretty good setup. And Gonk seems to like it...and he's a tough cookie. 8-)
Cheers,

Room correction can work wonders. If you've ever heard a full blown TACT system, it's really a night and day type of difference. Done well, room correction is a Godsend. However, it's hard to do it well. From what I've been reading, the SMS seems to be in the "does it well" camp.
Cheers,

Ritz, you will be very pleased with the SMS-1. Give it a go . If you don't like it , return it. My sub is a beast and my room was Boom Boom Boom. Now everything is just perfect. I hear lots of detail I was missing before and I am watching a ton of movies over again.

Yeah, I'm really a big fan of plucked bass and jazz w/acoustic bass. That just gets washed out if you've got a boomy room/sub. I've managed to get things mostly under control, but being able to better dial in the sub would be a welcome addition.
Cheers,

Thanks for all of your help. I will be ordering a LFM-1 and SMS-1 this week and sending my Vandy 2W off to Audiogon or Ebay. My 990 should be here tomorrow (unfortunately I have to leave town for 3 days-life can be so cruel) so I will probably be on the 990 forum asking questions of all of you.
Thanks again Brad

What was wrong with the Vandersteen? Before I settled on the Maggies, I came pretty close to Vandersteen 5's for my main speakers. I just couldn't bring myself to spend that kind of $$$. 8-) The Maggies were a lot easier to sneak under the spousal financial radar.
Cheers,

Nothing wrong with the Vandersteen 2W. It is great musical sub. I Used it with a pair of Spica TC-50speakers for a number of years. It Just doesn't seem to have quite the punch and presence for movie watching for me. It could just be me. Ritz you just need to buy your wife a larger radar screen so the blips on it don't look as large.
