i have an ht receiver with pre amp outputs. I want to upgrade to mono amps. I'm considering 3 amps vs. 5 amps. I was wondering if having m-block amps for the rear speakers is overkill.
Thanks, Tom

It's possible that the M200's would be more than you need for the surrounds, but it depends on the specifics of your equipment. For example, what speakers are you using for your surrounds, and what receiver are you using? Just to keep things eternally confusing, have you considered a five-channel power amp like the 755 in place of your receiver's amps? You would get a similar performance improvement -- which is preferable depends at least somewhat on your specific situation. ------------------ gonk -- 950 Review | LFM-1 Review | Pre/Pro Comparison Chart | Saloon Links

Gonk thanks for the reply. Here's the deal. I have a cheap Sherwood HT receiver I bought about 2 years ago. I bought it because it had pre-amp outputs with idea to updgrade the amps. The surround sound speakers are low end advents. My plan is to buy either three or five m-blocks. And than later on upgrade the speakers. And than finally replace the HT receiver with the Outlaw 950.
Thanks in advance, Tom

Is there something wrong with getting a 755? Unless you're planning to spread the amps all over kingdom come I'd just get that.

With the current promotion on 200's, you can get a stack of five for less than the cost of a 755. For me, there is some convenience to the single box, but there are also some benefits to monoblocks that are hard to deny -- if you have the space for all of them and are ready to add four extra power cords to your cabling snake pit, the stack of 200's would offer independent power supplies for each channel and redundancy (one channel dies, the other four are unaffected). ------------------ gonk -- 950 Review | LFM-1 Review | Pre/Pro Comparison Chart | Saloon Links
