I recently upgraded my Yahama RX-V992 rec to the 1050 after reading many reviews..however I now have an audible hum/buzz from both of my subwoofers( front is JBL 10 in and rear is Definitive Tech 15 in)..this hum is louder from the JBL then the Def Tech..they are connected via a Y connector...also I have noticed that.... on several DVDs that the front panel reads Digital in red as well as dolby pro logic.....the new Spiderman DVD reads dolby digital surr6.1...but the others do not...one more final question....another reason I purchased the 1050 is for the added feature of DTS...I played the EAGLES DVD which is recorded in the DTS format but when the DTS logo comes up on the screen all I hear is a low pitched hum..when I switch to PCM then the 1050 reads pro logic....thanks for the help......

CDR -- Welcome to the forum.

First, the easiest one: if you have not previously used DTS, your DVD player is probably not set up to pass the DTS signal out of the digital output. Typically (this has been true with both of my Panasonic players, and I've heard of others experiencing the same thing with other players), the default output format for DTS in your DVD player is PCM. You need to make sure the DTS signal is being output as "bitstream" so that the 1050 receives the true DTS signal.

Some DVD's default to Dolby 2.0, which is a digital audio signal (hence the "digital"); the 1050 will process this using Pro Logic. I suspect that this is what you are encountering, and going into the DVD's menu and changing the audio track to Dolby Digital 5.1 you will be back on track. The Spiderman disc defaults to Dolby 5.1, and the 1050 will use Surround 6.1 any time you get a Dolby 5.1 track if you have it turned on.

The hum/buzz from your subs sounds like a ground loop problem. You might try disconnecting everything and reconnecting each component until the hum appears. Or you could jump to the most common culprit: cable TV. Unhook your cable TV and see if the hum goes away. If it does go away, that's the source and there are devices that can be used to fit it.

Gonk-thanks for your reply..I have experimented and found the source of the problem but I can not seem to find a way to fix it...please read the info that I emailed to Outlaw and if you have any suggestions let me know..thanks..CDR
...I seem to have developed a hum after connecting the 1050 that comes from the subwoofers..more hum from the front JBL than the rear Definitive Tech(both are powered subs)...I had read earlier on another post entitled "subwoofer hum" from the board that the hum could be caused from "bad" cables such as S-Video cables so I investigated and found that when I disconnected the S-Video cable that connects the DVD player to the 1050..the hum becomes almost inaudible and acceptable...therefore I thought that I had found my problem so I changed to a new S-Video cable but I still have the hum..I have noticed that when the DVD S-Video cable is connected to the 1050 I can turn the volume to 0 and the hum completely disappears...if I turn the volume to even 1 the hum comes back full force...I love the way the 1050 sounds...so much better than my previous Yahama RX-V992 but the hum is driving me crazy..please help....I will be leaving tomorrow at around 10 central and be returning Sat 1/4/03...please email me or I may call tomorrow before I leave...thanks...CDR
