hello, has anyone used the monoblock to drive their subwoofer. Currently thinking of a vented HSU tube design with Fb at 16 hz using an adire dpl 12 in. woofer, at 4 ohms....I'm hoping the monoblock has a high damping factor associated with it. Also using a modified acurus act-3 (mondial upgrade) as the preamp, set to 80 hz on base management. The other channels are driven by a carver 806x with the center channel bridged. Any thoughts appreciated..

I don't but my guess is that it would do a great job.

If you need more power, for slightly less money, here's a suggestion: I currently use a bridged NAD 2200 to drive my one unpowered sub. With a bridged power rating of 400 W into 8 Ohms, and true dynamic power of 1.6 kW(!), you won't be wanting for oomph. (Its damping factor is ">100".) It's arguably the most powerful real-world amp ever made. They can be had on eBay for anywhere between $150 and $300. Five of them were sold in the last 30 days - at an average price of $236.50.

Personally if I were shopping for an amp to power a sub I'd buy a new Outlaw Model 200 rather than a used NAD 2200- unless I knew that I would require significantly more power. I'm using a 2200 because I happpened to have one kicking around anyhow.

thanks,
I'm also considering a carver 1.5 t amp from ebay...it too has a high dynamic headroom and bridging capacity similar to the NAD...it's damping is >150 so not so different from the m 200. Buying used doesn't bother me, so long as the build is good.
