There is a thorough (and favaorable) review at http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_10_2/outlaw-audio-200-amplifier-4-2003.html

I'm no engineer but it seemed like a fair and quantifiable article.

Since I'm in the market for an amp and started researching different products the 200 caught my attention. I was wondering though, if you get 7 of these and start watching "Saving Private Ryan" is there going to be a brown-out in the house with 7 new pieces of audio equipment plugged in?

What kind of precautions need to be taken to guard against electrical or power issues?

- I don't know that there's that much to worry about. Seven Model 200's would require no more power than a single 7x200 multi-channel amp (like the Outlaw Model 770 or one of a number of similar big amps out there). You'll definitely have some power cord issues to worry about, but otherwise it's just like any other big ol' amp. Don't really want to have them on the same circuit as your refrigerator (both to avoid overloading the circuit and to help keep noise from the compressor out of the amps), for instance.

If this posts a second time I apologize but I can't see any additional replies beyond the original post.

I'm curious about any issues or problems that might arise when all 7 200s are plugged in and in use during a movie.

Are there any safeguards or safety steps that must be taken prior to use?

I'm not sure how he has his power cables arranged, but Mike Knapp at Home Theater Talk has seven Model 200's in his system (see also his review of the Model 200 ).

I don't claim to be an expert in electrical design (especially since my background is in mechanical engineering -- I can move air or water if you need me to, but I'm a bit shakier on moving electrons). Having said that, if it were me I'd like to have a dedicated circuit for the home theater equipment (which is exactly what I did a little over a year ago, actually). The challenge of plugging in seven amps would tend to lead me toward some good quality power strip / power conditioner(s) for the amps (something more substantial than a $10 power strip from Walgreen's). Outlaw might be able to offer some specific thoughts (info@outlawaudio.com).

A comment from Bill in Texas this morning reminded me of a really cool experiment he did a few months ago. It was done with a 770 rather than seven 200's, but the difference there is largely semantics. Check out his December 26 post a little more than half-way down. He has his entire system on one circuit, and took measurements at standby, everything on with no source playing, and then at a couple of different volume levels. The summary was this:

Quote:
Ok, at -10dB with everything running the load was only 6.5 amps. At freaking the cats and wife 00dB my system only musters a 10.2 amp draw. Of which .7 amps is the sub that isn't going through the panamax.

Thanks for all the input Gonk, I appreciate it. I had planned on using another Monster HTS1000 or something similar to plug the 200s in to.

Thanks again.
