Connections between 200 and Denon 3802

I'm a novice at this HT stuff so I'm a little confused at how everything works if I added the 200's to drive my mains for listening to two channel music. So, based on my limited knowledge, here is how I think it works.
I would connect RCA jacks from the 200's into the left and right main speaker preouts on the Denon. Then I would unwire the main speakers from the Denon and rewire them to the 200's. This looks like that's all there is to it. All of the output controls and processing would still be done by the Denon. Does this sound right?
I could then listen to two channel music with the mains powered by the 200's. However, it seems that the 200's would drive the mains in all modes including HT in this arrangement. Is there any way to just use the 200's for two channel music and still use the Denon for HT?
Finally, does it even make sense to add the 200's. My mains are B & W 604S3's. I would think that that going from 110W to 200W would give them a fuller sound.

Looks like you have a good handle on it. Why would you want to not use the 200s for HT?

As charlie noted, you've got the wiring scheme worked out exactly right. Short of some convoluted speaker wire switching, though, you will be using the 200's all the time. This is not a bad thing, though. External amplification (particularly monoblock external amplificiation) is typically going to be an improvement over the amplification included with a receiver. The B&W's would certainly do fine with the M200's, I suspect. ------------------ gonk -- Saloon Links | Pre/Pro Comparison Chart | 950 Review

You have the hookup process exactly right, yes. Since the interconnects between your receiver and the new amps will be used at all times for the main channel, using cables that produce a good connetion is more important there.
You'll want to use the new amps to drive the mains all the time. If you're concerned about smooth blending between speakers, you'll probably be fine, but you might add a 3rd M-Block for the center channel (that's what I did with my 3802) and let the receiver drive the surrounds.

Quick question guys -- I have a Denon 3802 also and have it hooked up to 2 Martin Logan Scenario's and a Martin Logan Cinema center speaker. My rear surrounds are JBLs. If I get 3 M200s, will they work well with the Martin Logan's? I have an Infinity sub, so I currently have the logan's set to "small" -- any reason to switch them to "large" if I get the M200s or will the logan's woofers fight with my subwoofer? I'm lost -- please help.NPP

As for bass management, I'd probably leave them set to small and let the Denon do bass management. Of course, there's no reason not to experiment with running them large... ------------------ gonk -- Saloon Links | Pre/Pro Comparison Chart | 950 Review

I was glad to find this post as I have an Onkyo TX-NR900, which specs out (110w)about the same as the 3802. I run Polk RTi12's as my mains and was thinking of doing exactly the same thing with a couple of M-Blocks.
I was mainly trying to decide if it was worth the money to "waste" 2 channels from my receiver. From what you guys are saying even though I am only doubling the output I should notice a big differnce with mono-block amps when compared to receiver amps.

Back a long time ago I moved my surround speakers off of the reciever's internal amp and onto another reciever... everything improved, rears and the front 3 channels.. Moving your front speakers off the internal amp should also improve the quality of the center and surround channels or at least give them more headroom
