Check out this link for a pop up stopper that seems to really work well. You can pay for it or get a stripped down free version. I use the free version and LOVE it. It even has a bypass (hold down CTL when clicking) for windows you want to have pop up. It also puts an icon next to the clock so you can toggle it on and off. Takes a little getting used to remembering you have it (some pages never come up because they are told to open a new window) but once you do, life is MUCH happier.

BTW, I didn't get a single pop up window checking out the pics with the link above.
