I never tried it when I had a 1050, but it would make sense and the manual is pretty explicit about it being that way. If the 6.1 Surround mode is active, then the 1050 has to convert at least the surround channels to digital to process them with the DSP engine. At that point, why not convert all of it? If it were converting all of the channels to digital, then it could pass that digital signal to the DSP just like it was a Dolby Digital input from a player and apply the 6.1 Surround processing and bass management.
