Hello Outlaw Nation.....I am currently pushing a pair of Paradigm Monitor 9's with a Harman Kardon 3480. Overall I am plesed with the HK's bang for the buck. However,I still think it could be better. Recently I've been considering a preamp to go with my HK. Would I be better off trying the preamp/HK combo,or ditching the HK all together and buying the RR2150?

Well, that is the exact model HK I just upgraded from. I run Axiom M80v2s. The improvement with the RR2150 is significant. I was always impressed with the HK bang/buck ratio too. But RR2150 is in a different league.
FWIW, here's a review from recent JazzTimes:
http://jazztimes.com/reviews/audio_video_files/reviewDetail.cfm?ReviewID=43

After reading that I figured what the heck - 30 day home trial and all that. Was sold in 30 minutes.

Good luck!

Yeah, the 30 day home trial is a great selling point. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze $650 out of my wallet soon!

Would you consider a B-Stock unit, stevieblues? I bought my RR 2150 new at the introductory price ($599), but the very favorable reports about B-stock units around the forum suggest that at $499 it's not an option to rule out. And you still get the 30-day home trial, which makes it seem like even more of a win-win to me. Just a thought…

Too true, tru blu. My unit has absolutely no scratches or blemishes. It looks and as far as I'm aware of, operates flawlessly.

$499 and no shipping charges ? Ridiculous to pass up IMHO. Think of what you could buy with the other $200 ! I'm not guaranteeing that your unit won't have a scratch or a ding somewhere, but if you can live with possibly having one, for that price I think it's worth the risk.

Man, at $499 shipped, the B-Stock is a no-brainer, IMO.
My B is Flawless, too.

I own an HK3480 that drives 2 Polk Model 60s (3 5.25 inch drivers and a 1 inch tweeter) plus a Velodyne sub (12 inch). I also own an RR2150 that drives FOUR Polk Model 70s (4 6 inch drivers and a 1 inch tweeter) plus an Epik Valor sub (15 inch sealed).

The HK3480 does not produce clean sound to SPL levels anywhere close to the RR2150. In addition, the RR2150 has a number of additional features that the HK3480 does not.

In conclusion, the HK3480 is just fine for a 2.1 system for a bedroom or a small to medium size room at low listening levels. However, a larger room and louder listening volumes will be the breaking point where the RR2150 is clearly the superior performer.
