I know this sound really stupid, but i just got my 1050 reciver (which kicks ass), and i am trying to hook up my Xbox to it. I can get the sound to work perfectly, but i need to know if there is a way to hook up the video cable out of the Xbox into the back of the reciver. If there is a way, can someone help me. Thanks

Never seen the connections on the Xbox but I'll assume it's just a normal composite video connector. In which case you just plug it in to one of your video ins. I've got all my game systems hooked up to a mechanical switcher and the output of that goes to video 3. If you're short inputs, a cheap switcher from the old Rat Shack can fix ya!

The standard video connector on an Xbox is a composite connection. This will hook right into the 1050. There are S-video and component upgrades available as well as a digital sound connection. The component cable will have to go straight to the TV, but all other cables can be hooked to the 1050, provided they haven't been used yet.

Thank you for the quick responses. I still dont understand what you mean by the composit cable will have to go into the tv. On the back of the reciver, above the sound inputs, there is a video input. What are the video inputs there for. If they are there to plug the video from the xbox, how do I get the signal from the reciver into the back of my tv.

Do you know the three types of video connections? They are composite, s-video and component. Compisite is a single video cable that has yellow at the end. This should be what you have on the Xbox. The compisite can go into the 1050. s-video is the next step up. It is a single cable that separates the signal so that it is transfered more purely. This can also go into the 1050. Component is the best available video connection. It looks like compisite, except that there are three of them. This connection splits the video into three colors. This is the type of cable that has to go directly to the TV as the 1050 does not have component inputs.

So, for your current setup, you'll plug the yellow composite connection into one of the video inputs, and the two audio connections into the corresponding audio input (the set directly below the video you chose).

Component and composite are easy to mix up if you haven't seen them before. We've all done it at some point, so don't feel bad.

Check out this chart of connector types. The first entry is an RCA connector, which is used for the most basic video interface (composite video) as well as audio. The Xbox came with a cable that has three RCA plugs on one end -- left audio, right audio, and composite video. You can plug all three into the inputs on the 1050 (use Video2 or Video3, the video input you want is right above the audio inputs). Do you have your TV connected to the 1050 currently? There are two "monitor outputs" on the 1050 -- one composite and one S-Video. You want to get a composite video cable and connect the composite monitor out to the input on your TV. This assumes that your TV has such an input. Odds are that you do. If you don't, let us know and we can go from there.

If your TV has an S-Video input, you might consider getting the S-Video adapter cable for your Xbox -- it will give you superior video quality.

darkr182, since you might not know, gonk rules. Everyone else here wishes we were that good at giving advice. If you have S-video, I say go for it. I saw quite a difference on my original playstation (not PS1 or PS2 just Playstation).

I have the three wires going into the back of the reciver, the two sound, and the composite video. I get sound, but I can't get any video. DO i have to have another wire comming out from the reciver into the back of my tv?

Yep! You hook up the Monitor Out to your TV and you'll be all set. Have fun!

BTW, that same monitor out cable will carry all of your video signals (cable, vcr, video game, etc) to your TV and will automatically switch to match the audio source you have selected. So make sure you hook up all of your composite video signals to the 1050 to make your life as simple as possible.

I have regular cable coming in through a TV box and its not digital, at least I'm not paying for digital cable. How do I hook it into the 1050? Do I still need the cable box?
