Just wondering if anyone has heard how this is progressing? I sure would love to have 7 channels of 300 Outlaw Watts.

I've had to direct several people who wanted to duplicate my setup to other brands of amps, but most of them still bought a 990 (one blew off Outlaw completely in favor of the Rotel RSP-1068 and RMB-1095). I suspect this lack of higher end amps is resulting in a lot of lost sales...especially at this time of year. *shrug*

That is the downside to contract manufacturing. If the manufacturer can make more money making something else your stuff might slip.

Yup, that is definitely a downside. All the customer knows is that they can't purchase what they want. They don't really care why. This seems to be an ongoing issue so perhaps it might be time to find a more reliable contract manufacturer. 8-)

Cheers,

I guess it will take them a while and I am in no particular hurry although those Earthquake Cinennovas are mighty tempting. I would prefer to stay with the Outlaws though.

How do the outlaw amps compare to the sherbourn amps. I have a 5/1500 and I am ready to buy the 990 but I was thinking about getting the package price pre amp & amp by selling my 1500. But I would like this new 790 since it will match the 990.

For what it's worth, the newsletter that showed up in my inbox last night said that the 7500 and 7700 are entering production and should start shipping in early January. No mention of the 790, however.

I'm not sure how the Outlaw and Sherbourn amps compare directly. If I remember correctly, Sherbourn uses a "multiple monoblock" design approach (each channel has its own power supply), whereas the 770 and 755 used two toroidal transformers in a power supply shared by all channels. I'd expect the 7500 and 7700 to be designed similarly. If you don't want to wait for the 790 and wanted amps that match the 990, the 7500 or 7700 would be an option, but you're not going to gain any power (the 5/1500 being a 5x200W amp, just like the 7500). Both the 5/1500 and the upcoming Outlaw amps offer balanced connections.

Depending on how the resale value is on the 1500, there may be little or no price penalty to getting the package once the 7500 and 7700 arrive. I would expect there to be no drawbacks or penalties sonically from selling the 1500 and buying a 7500 or 7700 (and the 7700 would give you seven channels, allowing for an upgrade to 7.1 later), but aside from the option of having more channels and the aesthetics I don't know that there would be much benefit either.

Gonk I was wondering if in the newsletter it mentioned if they had nailed down the prices for the new amps. I know that the 1500 and 2000 dollar range had been a ballpark number given.

Got a note from Steve saying that the 790 was way on the back burner because of overheating problems. I know it will be worth the wait though .
