Who is using a Brickwall 2Raud with their outlaw 770? Have you noticed anything different/limitations with the combo after adding the Brickwall. I have the 770 hooked to a dedicated 20 amp circuit, but since the 770 only has a 15 amp cord anyway, is the Brickwall enough? Perhaps the 2Raud, is not the Brickwall model I should be looking at?

I own two PW2R15s and a PW2R20. They are fine as far as I can tell. You have to trust the specs and hope. I also use an APC UPS downstream of the PW2R15 to protect my projector and another for my computer. Downstream of the Brickwall you can use any of several multi-outlet noise suppression and filtering devices if you want. Does the Brickwall work? How can you tell with a surge protector? It's kind of like the old story about the guy throwing around pieces of toilet paper to keep away the tigers and thinking it works because there are no tigers around. We have had several severe electrical storms since I brickwalled the computer, TV, and HT system and no damage was done. But then no damage was done before I owned them....

Gonk, but will the 2R20 work well with high current amps and electronics? The PW2Raud says it is designed for high current devises. As you know, I have been deliberating a surge protector for a little while. Well, last night we lost power... again! So I am going to make a purchase. I just don't want to choke my 770's power.

AudioBear, thanks for your input. I am not sure what I am going to get. I have the 770 on a dedicated 20 amp circuit, but as I mentioned, the 770 kind of restricts its self anyway with a 15 amp cord, so perhaps I am making to much of this. Anymore advice or input is truely welcome. Craig

I do not think that the current capacity will be a problem for reasons discussed previously in other threads. The 20 AMP and the 15 AMP ratings are continuous operation ratings as I understand it. Both devices can pass much higher transient currents (as seen in music and soundtracks). My sense from reading those prior posts is that your ears would not survive continuous full output of your 770 even with inefficient speakers.

his question dedicated of 15 or 20 amp circuits seems to come up quite frequently and I hope some of these numbers help explain why most do not have a problem running everything in a HT setup off of a single 15 amp circuit.
Circuit breakers are not an absolute when it comes to their rating. Consider this..... A 15 amp breaker will carry a CONTINUOUS load of 15 amps (1800 watts) indefinitely 16 amps (1920 watts) for 15 minutes 19 amps (2280 watts) for 1 minute 50 amps (6000 watts) for 2 seconds 64 amps (7680 watts) for 1 second 90 amps (10,800 watts) for .5 seconds
This just shows why the breakers are not tripping every time a 770 charges its capacitors on startup. Our audio equipment also does not present a continuous current load like a toaster or welder, which makes the demand easier on the circuit. Has anyone ever tripped a 15A breaker from listening to a movie or song to loud? I doubt it.

Here's what the Brickwall folks had to say when I inquired about buying a whole bunch of them for recording studio/concert use:
The PW8R15AUD has isolation between the duplexes(for 4 isolated banks of outlets). The PW2RAUD has an oversized reactor (20 amps). Their performance characteristics for incoming line filtering and surge protection are roughly the same. If you do have large amplifiers used, you may want to go with the PW2RAUD. The PW8R15AUD handles most complete systems or boards provided the amps are not too large or are used in multiples.
I hope this has been of assistance and please feel free to contact us if y9ou should have any further questions.
Yours,

Ryan, AudioBear, thanks for your feedback. I am considering ordering one PW2Raud for my amp and receiver and one PWAr15aud for the rest of my electronics. What do you think? As soon as I can, I would like to get another PW2Raud for my SVS ultra sub as well.

Heh,
I'm not Ryan. He works for the company that produces the Brickwall filters. 8-)
A PW2Raud is probably overkill for the SVS sub since I'm reasonably sure it uses a class D amp that probably doesn't draw anywhere close to 20 amps.
I ended up ordering a dozen or so 15 amp units and a much smaller number of 20amp PW2Raud for instances where power hungry large amps are going to be used.
Cheers,

How many independent circuits do you have to power your system? I can't see why you would have any more than one 20 amp brickwall on a 20 amp circuit and then attach all you electronics to that (through any secondary power cleaning and shaping you want to pay for). If you gear is on 2 20 amp circuits then two brickwalls, but if you are feeding all your gear on a single 15 amp circuit then you'll never get more than 15 amps through it.
And I think Ritz is right, svs subs draw very little current because they use very efficient class d amps.
If this sounds dumb don't take offense -- it's Friday afternoon and I'm brain dead.
