I was watching a old movie on dvd (1946 John Wayne) its soundtrack is mono. My 1050 defaults from dolby to just two speakers running no mater what the setting. Im using a digital coax input. Is this correct because its in mono??

Probably. I suppose it really depends on your setup and settings. For example, do you have a center channel? Whenever I play a mono encoded DVD, it plays purely through my center channel.

No I dont have a center channel but, that wasnt it. the 1050 is staying in two channel mode no mater what I set it at or whats playing. Its stuck there. Just my mains and sub play and thats all that shows in my display.

By "stuck," do you mean that it only uses the left and right channels when any source is used (including Dolby 5.1 and DTS sources), or that you can only get the left and right channels when using the John Wayne movie? Assuming it's the latter and it's only with a mono source, the 1050 is behaving correctly: the surround processing is only going to give you the left and right channels because that's all that is there. You'd need to use one of the 1050's DSP modes (Natural, Jazz, ...) to get the surrounds in use.

Its actually staying in stereo mode when I play any dvd. For example I played Blade II yesterday but my settings stayed on stereo. The display shows a dolby digital signal but my speaker array shows only my mains and sub. It was fine until I played the mono soundtrack from the old movie.

Hrmmm... have you tried switching through the surround modes? If it's in stereo, it may stay there even when it gets a DD signal, and switching to "SURROUND" may get you back into the world of multi-channel...

So even with it in "surround" mode, you still only get the mains and sub? Boy, I'm stuck too -- don't know what could be going on.

Thanks for your help GONK. I went home at lunch and unplugged the 1050. Guess what? It re-set itself and is now o.k. Im back to 5.1 again. One note though, I tried the dvd with the mono sountrack and it locked up again. My only guess is that this dvd is sending a weird signal to the 1050 somehow and causing this. I un-plugged it again, waited, and now its back to normal. Guess I'll toss this dvd even though I like old westerns. Could sending a mono signal through the optical connection cause this??
