If anyone had this combo I would like their impressions of the audio sound. The Pioneer uses Burr/Brown DACs and the Outlaw has the AKM. Specifically does the Pioneer sound better with the analogs out (B/B DACs) than the Outlaw using coax digital (AKM DACs)? Right now I have Toshiba player that does not compete with Outlaw audio DACs. The Outlaw DACs up to this point in my system sound very nice.

MCH,

I do not have this combo, but your question struck a chord with me because a similar thing has been on my mind.

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a Marantz CC-4300 CD changer. I don't know what DACs Marantz uses but many consider their players to be very good sounding at their price point.

I've been experimenting a bit; I have the 4300s analog outputs connected to the 1050s 5.1 direct inputs, as well as the coaxial digital. In doing A/B listening tests, I've found that the 1050s DAC sounds better to me. The sound just seems fuller and punchier.

I know this doesn't answer your question specifically, but I guess my point is that the 1050s DACs seem to be pretty darn good.

Anyone else have any similar experiences?

Very interesting! I have a feeling that when Outlaw put this reciever together they did an extremely good job of quality parts at the price point (being as this was their first foray into the reciever market; couldn't afford to start with an inferior product). My son was over tonight and we listened to some of his cd's. He has the same speakers and player as I do, but a Sony amp and sub (I have a diy Tempest sub and the Outlaw 1050). We listened to some Nine Inch Nails (my first experience to that band and thought it quite good). He commented that my system killed his system for sound quality. So at this time I'm wondering at what price point I would have to reach in order to improve my sound via player. How about the combo of the 950 and an amp? At 5 times the cost. Does it equal 5 times the listening experience?

Probably not five times so, but I do think better. And you do get more flexibility, especially when upgrading later.

A lot of people who own the 1050 buy an amp first (755 would be a good choice) and then replace the 1050 with a processor later.

And remember, the 755 is kind of expensive, but you'll be able to own it for a lot longer than you'll own your 1050. I fully expect to be using mine 20 years down the road.

I have been very impressed with the DACS in my 1050 at this price point and beyond. My Rotel CD player sounds much better using coaxial as opposed to analog. This might have something to do with my DIY front speakers,as close to Theil as I could make them!I am in the middle of installing a Pioneer 47ai.....I stopped because it's demensions do match up with my other gear,I will have to reconfigure everything! Is the 47ai worth it? Can I put it on top of my 1050?????????
Duncan.......ps. if I could find one, a new sony 999ES would fit perfect!

I would not stack anything on top of a 1050 -- they really need the room to breath.

I myself am thinking about buying the Pioneer Elite 45A universal player but i got to hold off maybe Outlaw will come out with one? Remember the contest? You never know ,
but i'll wait a couple more months.

Anyway, just like the 47A, the Pioneer Elite 45A has three(3) 192khz/24bit Burr brown DAC's. I was thinking this player probably sounds as good or even better than the 1050's DAC. Afterall, this is not just a cd player it plays DVD-Audio and SACD.... and by the way, it costs as much as the 1050.
