I just hooked up my new 950 and 770 yesterday. Everything seems to be working correctly except I noticed that the green button on the 770 stays lit when I turn off the 950. I have the trigger properly connected. Does the green button stay lit all the time... even when it is off? If that is the case then how do you know if the 770 is off?

But yes, - unless you manualy depress the front panel button off. The green is on to indicate 'standby'. If you put your hand on the top of the 770 when it has not been run all night, but is left on 'standby' with green light on. (first thing in the morning) you will know all is working well...it will be cold.

The 'green on' all the time indicates its standing by till it recieves a power request.

Note that when cabling your system, you should not just depress the front green 'standby' button to the off position.
You need to depress the 'rear' power button on the back of the 770 (your main power button) to cut power to the 770.

My 770 does not stay green. In fact, both the 950 and 770 standby buttons turn a light amber when on standby and green when on. My lights will also dim for a split second with the click of the 770 that tells me it's on.

Thought I tag on to this thread. Just got the 770. The power light does not change when the 990 triggers the amp on or off. Doesn't blink, change color, nothing. Just continues to glow, no matter if the processor is on or in stby.

So I take it this means it's not indicating as it should?

I don't have a 770 (my 750 is different from the later multichannel amps), so I can't speak from personal experience. What you describe matches Smart Little Lena's experience, and she spent a bunch of time with Outlaw gear back when she was a regular here (when we last heard from her around here she had two separate systems based around a Model 950). If you're not sure, give Outlaw a call or an e-mail and they'll make sure you're on track.

I just bought a 770amp. The green light in the front is always on for me even though the amp may not be powering the speakers. The only indication I have that my 770amp has powered up is the fact that it gets warm when pumping out sound and stays nice and cool when not operating.

There is never a flicker or change of the green light to yellow or amber. I do not think that is even an option (any more?) on the new 770amps.

Same here. I just received my 770 yesterday, and presumably it's among the last of that line. The power button itself glows kind of a sickly greenish as long as the rear power switch is on and the green button is in. It unfortunately does not reflect the state of the trigger input.

I used to have a 950 preamp before I got the 990, and it didn't work the same way. The 950 had an LED below the green power button that lit up when the unit was in standby, went off when the unit was on, and blinked when muted. I wonder when/why the decision was made to make the 770 have a glowing button instead of an LED. I could have sworn the original 770's had a visible LED.

I think the 770's use the same faceplate as the 750, which was designed several years before the 950 - with a faintly glowing green power button and no LED.

Thanks for the replys. I talked to Outlaw and they confirmed that the power button does not change when the amp is triggered on and off. When the unit is turned on and off via the 12v trigger the power light on the front panel just tells you if the CB switch on the back of the unit is on or off.

Wow I love the internet. I was looking at this same problem/question. Coming from a 750 which turned the green button on and off with the trigger I was afraid it was staying on. Thanks again guys for putting that fear to rest.
