Could anyone give me some direction on the best circuit protection to get for my 770, 950 and all the other Home Theater equipment? I will go high end to protect my investment for all of my equipment. Ideas? Suggestions?
I am using a dedicated 20 amp circuit for the system and after reading related posts, I am about ready to run a second 20 amp cirucit from the box before I button up the basement ceiling to split the amp from all the rest of the equipment.

There are a number of different products available, but several people around here use Panamax (the MAX5300 is popular, or the MAX5100 -- I have been using the 5100 for almost a year now). It offers protection and some switching capability.

Thanks for the Panamax info. I used the links you supplied on the pre/pro comparison in my search for what ended up being the Outlaw Audio 950/770 combo. I will have to give the Panamax units a closer look to decide which model I should really be using with some expansion capacity.

Get something with an 'attached equipment warrenty' or similar policy. There's nothing you want to pay for that can really protect against a really nearby event like a lightning strike. If equipment protection is what you're after several outfits will replace up to $xxxx of equipment in the case of damage. This should work every time

Some of the protectors have filters as well, and I understand that may make a difference for some folks, I've never had that sort of power problems though.

Very true. The Panamax models I mentioned include $5,000,000 in connected equipment protection. I'm guessing that's their way of saying "if it gets past our unit, we'll take care of it..."

Over in some other forums, there seemed to be some general consensus that the best protection is to install a whole house surge protector (that I believe is also TSS? rated) at the panel, and then use the kind of surge protection mentioned by the other gentlement at the device. What to use at the device seems subject to a lot of discussion, but (at least to me) the "defense in depth" makes sense.

You also should be careful to address other paths such as telephone, satellite and cable tv connections.

And of course, if there is news of a storm coming, unplug everything - best and cheapest protection on earth.

why dont you try a Furman PS-PRO II Power Conditioner/Sequencer with SMP "Series Mode Portection" and Lift"Linear Filtering Technology with a max of 20 Amp power handling, www.partsexpress.com has a good deal on them, I run mine with a Outlaw 770/ Denon 3805/Philips Plasma with E-Box/DVD player and Cable box all pluged into the unit with no problems, everything runs like a charm.
