I've been experiencing an odd problem/issue with my 1050 - although I'm not certain it's actually the 1050.

Here's the scenario: I have a DVD with five of the original Scooby Doo mysteries (you gotta dig Scooby Doo) which is in stereo. I usually play it in DPL or stereo, but recently I've noticed that DPL will not show up as an option.

Not only that, but the 1050 thinks it's in Dolby Digital and not DPL, which used to show up on the display.

I'm throwing this "terrible" problem open to the forum as my son has gotta have his (ok, I like it too) Scooby Doo.

BTW, the center and rear channels work fine on DD stuff.

Another possibility is that I've changed some odd setting on my DVD player, but I couldn't begin to think of what it might be.

It might be your DVD player. It depends on how you have it hooked up too. If you're using digital coax or optical, the 1050 will detect what type of signal it is being fed. If it gets a 5.1 signal, even if only 2 channels are used, it will display dolby digital. Your DVD player probably has settings for output type for DD and DTS. Either bitstream or PCM. This is to allow for older receivers that couldn't decode the signal. You want bitstream.

I just bought a new DVD player, Panasonic CP-72, and when I played a DTS movie I wondered where the surround sound went. The default for DTS was PCM, so I only got dpl. I changed it and voila! BTW, the panny player is superb. Great picture, much better than the panny it replaced.

I may have spoken too soon, as for some reason I think it's a problem with the disk itself. Tonight we plugged in Peter Pan, and all the normal settings were in place.

Hmm, I wonder if a few smudges can have an effect on the disc.
