My remote batteries died and I replaced the batteries. However, after that, I noticed the 950 doesn't respond to remote anymore. Firt I thought it was the remote, but then I was able to program it to control the DVD. Then I tried to reset 950, but still nothing comes of it. Has anyone else had similar experience? What seemed to cause the problem?

Could the remote have gotten reset? That might explain why the remote isn't controlling the 950.

My 950 did the same thing a few months ago. The 950 wouldn't respond to the factory remote or the MX500. Unfortunately I was just out of warranty.

How to tell if the remote has been reset? I don't seem to recall that in the manual. Also, I tried other remotes on the 950 but no luck.

Keta, what was the solution to the problem? Right now I am manually setting everything on the 950 and sigh, I am just out of warranty on the 950 too.

I decided to get an MMC-1 from Emotiva.

You mentioned that you had to program it to control the DVD player - was it previously set up to control that player? If it never had the codes for the DVD in the first place, then I doubt it was a reset problem at the remote. If you had to re-program it for the DVD player, though, then it is possible the remote got messed up during the battery change somehow.

You might also call or put in a service ticket with Outlaw, just in case they have some good suggestions. It could be a glitch with the 950 that a reset would fix, although the timing of the issue (batteries in the remote) make me suspicious of a problem at the remote's end. Outlaw may be able to swap out remotes with you or talk you through re-programming it.

The remote wasn't previously programmed to control the DVD player. I programmed just to see if it was still functioning. I did put in a ticket with Outlaw folks, but so far they don't have any solutions either.

I see this is an old thread but I'm having the same Issue. I just had my 950 repaired a few mts ago(it had a bad power supply) at that time it was still under warranty. When I got it back it would not respond to the remote but I turned it off then on again and replaced my batteries and it worked.
Then about 2 weeks went by and it did it again but it was at the end of the night and I was on my way to bed so I just turned it off manually. The next morning I got up and turned it on with the remote and it worked well. After about a week it did it again. Now its doing it every day like its getting worse.
Sad part is I never had this problem till after it was in for repairs but now its out of warranty.
Does anyone think Outlaw will make this right as there is a possibility that the warranty repair they did seems to have caused this issue?
I just want the old girl to last till then new model is released frown

Are you sure the problem is with the 950, or could it be with the remote?

My problem was with the unit. The 950 stopped responding to all remotes.

I have a 52" Visio LCD tv that has the same problem. It's working ok now, but 3 times it stopped responding to the remote and after unplugging it for several hours and then plugging it back in it started to work again. I've gone several months between each time this happened. The last time it happened I replaced the batteries in the remote with those silver energizer litium AA cells and so far so good.

My 950 has been flaky with remote inputs for years -- I always thought it was just that the remote was going to crap.

I recently got a new universal remote (Harmony 510) and the 950 is still just as flaky! Infuriating when you need to bump the volume up or down a decent bit.

So I've concluded it's the IR receiver on the 950 that's wonky. I've got a ticket with Outlaw, although I doubt there's much to be done -- I've had my 950 for quite a while, and while there's really no functional need to upgrade, this remote thing is killer.

Could it be a line-of-sight issue in your room? If so, a simple remote IR sensor could do the trick. I use a couple of the 291 sensors on this page ($27 right now) in different places around the house, and you can plug one of those directly into the 950.
