Hey all! Been forever since I've been here. I like the new layout smile

My 950 has been serving me faithfully for 3 years now. A while ago the volume knob started freaking out - if I spin it in one direction, sometimes the volume goes in the other, something nothing happens at all - but other than that, it's been a reliable workhorse.

Recently, it's picked up an annoying habit. When I'm listening to audio through one of the Coax digiat inputs and any electrical load shows up in the house, it loses the signal and has to reaquire it. It then works normally again.

It started out with the bathroom light/fan going on, but seems to be getting progressively worse. If any light in the house comes on, it loses the signal. When my wife opens the fridge and the light goes on the 950 occasionally loses the signal. It's very aggravating. The problem doesn't happen with optical or analog inputs.

Nothing else is on the circuit with the Outlaw besides the TV. They're on a Monster surge strip/conditioner (I forget the model).

Any suggestions on narrowing the problem before I call Outlaw support?

A few things I haven't tried yet, but will ASAP:
Making the COAX run very short.
Trying different digital inputs.

Thanks!

-Joe

Does it happen to both coaxial inputs? And if it only happens to one coax input, does it happen with more than one source component or is it a single specific source (DVD player or whatever) each time? I'd also try a different coaxial cable and also perhaps adjusting the route the cable follows (miniscule chance that a poorly shielded cable is too close to a power cord or electrical service in the wall and is getting befuddled).

Thanks, gonk. It was the length and/or routing of the cable. I cut the cable length in half and moved it, and the problem went away. It was running under the living room floor. I was careful to keep it away from power wires, and cross them at 90 degrees when I had to, but I guess the run was just too long for the RCA cable.

I was going to try the cable anyway, but I was musing over it at work and thought I'd see if anyone had any other ideas in case it wasn't the problem.

Can you run optical instead?

No; the PC doesn't have optical out. We moved the PC so it's within 3' of the Outlaw, and the problem has completely disappeared. I'm a big fan of shorter cable, runs, anyway, so this makes me happy.

Thanks for the input (no pun intended wink )

Well, if the PC had to stay a distance away, you could always try a converter and run a long optical - shouldn't be as susceptible to EM and RF noise as the coaxial.

Ooooohhhh I hadn't thought of a converter.

The real reason we moved the PC closer is we're using it as a PVR. I don't want to make 30+' runs of either component video or HDMI cabling. Everything gets simpler (and less expensive!) as the PC gets closer to the TV and Outlaw smile

Thanks again,

-Joe
