The digital audio section on my 950 seems to have died. I have 5 digital input devices attached to it (4 optical, 1 coax). For the past 3 days, all of those devices have no audio 80-90% of the time in the digital section (analog works fine). Any of them will play for 1-15 secs and then the LCD panel reads "S/PDIF Unlock".

I have checked the interconnects, swapped some decives from Optical to Coax -- no better results on any.

Note that all of the devices still work fine through the corresponding analog inputs.

One other item I've noticed is that the 950 menu through the S-Vid port now works inconsistetly too -- goes really fuzzy and then back to normal. I don't know how long that's been so because I rarely use that menu.

To try to reemedy this, I pulled the power for 5 mins and then did a hard reset (via the button behind the volume know). After this reset, the same problems occur.

Nothing environmental has changed -- e.g. no ither high-draw devices in the house, no flourescent lights, it's well ventilated.

Any ideas? I just posted a ticket on the support page -- hoping you guys might have some ideas too.

Best bet is to probably check in with Outlaw on Monday (when they respond to your support ticket) - it may need some warranty work. They'll get you fixed up.

My 950 is also acting up exactly like yours. Initially I thought it was my Samsung SIR-TS160 sat receiver but then I noticed it happening to my Pioneer Elite DV45A DVD player and DLink DSM520 Media Server. After swapping out digital audio cables, I swapped in my 990 and everything including the cables worked fine which points to the 950 being the problem. I tried both hard and soft resets and nothing seems to fix it. Looks like I need to call Outaw tomorrow morning.

Perhaps it's time to upgrade to the 970 but I'd like to get the 950 back in working order before I sell it.

Keep in mind, fellas, that even the oldest 950 (such as the one I had until back in May) are still under their five year warranty - even if they've changed hands along the way.

I opened a ticket on-line but the problem comes and goes. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if they have any suggestions before having to ship it back. With my luck it will bench test alright and come back with the problems  I'll keep everybody posted. Too bad we can't send them back as paritial trade for the 970.

I am curious if the previous posters of this problem have it resovled or how. My 950 is also having the same problem on ALL optical and co-ax inputs. I opened a ticket w/ support but they probably don;t work on weekends. I am interested to see if there is anything I can do myself to fix the issue instead of shipping it in.

Thanks in advance,

Frank W

I'm having exactly the same problem as Roberth. The unit was sent to Outlaw for repair but has just been returned exhibiting the same problem. Steve at Outlaw is offering to have the unit returned at Outlaw's cost.

I just started having this exact same problem this weekend. All analog inputs still work, but coaxial and optical inputs are dead. Guess I'll call Outlaw next week.

You'll need to send it in for service. This is one of the symptoms I had recently with my 950.

Fortunately, I was still under warranty. Good news is, they fixed it within a few days of receiving the unit. Shipping back and forth took the most time. Good luck!

Well guys my trusty 950 did the same thing then failed to even turn on. From what support told me its a power supply problem. Im sure glad Im still under warranty. The E-mail I received from Outlaw said it can take 3-4 weeks to repair and return. I hope its not that long. My system being dead is already killing me >.<

From what I've seen of other reports, they try to under-promise and over-deliver on turn-around times (so they say 3-4 weeks, which it might be if they got slammed all of a sudden, but it often takes closer to two or less depending on the amount of time the unit spends in transit).
