Yes, you can - and there are two ways to do it. One is to connect both the digital audio (coaxial or optical) to the 990 for DVD and stereo analog audio to the 990 for CD, but another way (which is what I've been doing) is to connect just the digital audio and assign that input to both the DVD and CD inputs of the 990. That way, you can leave the CD input set for stereo (I'd recommend also trying upsample) and have the DVD input set up for surround sound. This approach is preferred in cases where the 990's DAC's are superior to the DVD player's DAC's (and the 990 has some very nice DAC's).
