I own a Model 950, and I am looking for an MP3 Audio Jukebox player. The iRiver H-100 series has both optical output and analog line output. Can the Model 950 DAC convert the optical output from an iRiver MP3 player?

What would be the best way to connect an iRiver MP3 player to a Model 950? Are there other portable music players that are better suited for connecting to the Model 950?

The 950 will work fine with the iRiver or other portable MP3 players, using either analog or digital connections. In all the cases I know of, the players' digital output is formatted as PCM just like CD's are. I'd probably use the optical in your case, but there's a sure-fire test: try both and use the one you like the most.
