When I press Aud then power nothing happens and it shows direct-bypass on the 950 front panel read out...I wanted to program my sony remote to turn the 950 off yet I can't right now, any advice?
Thanks

It's just a hunch, but it sounds like you may have a macro programmed onto the power button that is turning bypass mode on. Is that a possibility? If so, here's how to erase macros (from page 39 of the 950's manual):

Quote:
To erase a Macro sequence:
  1. Press AUD and MUTE buttons simultaneously. The red LED and the AUD button remain lit.
  2. Press the Macro button that you wish to erase.
  3. Press the CHANNEL UP button to store the commands.

The red LED and the AUD button will blink twice to confirm the program and then turn off.

The stored sequence is now erased from the Macro button.

That is because the 950 (and the 990) uses the input commands as discrete power "on" commands to help with macro writing, and the 950's remote combines input commands with device selection on the remote. There is one workaround when using the 950's remote, but it's a bit crude - cover the IR emitters at the front of the remote when you press the TV device button...
