Just finished up a deal and she'll be shipping out tomorrow.

I currently have an ICBM, a Monster HTS-2500 a JVC dvd player, 4 Adcom 2-channel amps and a plate amp for the Sonosub. This will be replacing the Klipsch 5.1 pre/pro I have now.

Any helpful tips, suggestions and the like for setting this thing up?

Welcome to the forum, Ron!

I guess one piece of advice is that if your Sonosub does not have a built in crossover, do not use the auto calibration.

Also, make sure you have a cold beverage to keep you cool while you set it up and even more for listening. laugh

EDIT: Didn't realize you said 950. I click on the "new posts" link instead of the categories so that is why I didn't notice at first. Enjoy the 950 and ignore the auto setup feature since the 950 doesn't have one.

Consider adding another pair of surround speaker (7.1 set-up) to take full advantage of the 950's surround processing capabilities.

I am sure you will be pleased with the pre/pro. I know I sure was when I got mine. You will find many references here in the forum to different questions and tips. Of course, you can always contact the Outlaws directly, they are very helpful. In my case, I even got a call back to make sure things were ok from Steve.
Not sure where you purchased your 950, but if it was second hand, I would contact the Outlaws with the serial number, may transfer what's left of the 5 year warranty for you.

Already on that. I started searching for another pair of Polk AB755 inwalls to match my existing and another Adcom 535 amp to power them.

I purchaed the 950 from Mike Knapp (owner of HTT). I'm certain it is in perfect condition but I will contact the Outlaws once it lands on my front door.

Did Mike say if he'd installed the DTS-ES fix? If he didn't say I bet that Outlaw's records would tell you. I would assume that he did.

I asked him and he said it was sent in and replaced with a new "upgraded" unit. He said this one has no problems or issues at all.

Excellent! A couple of things to remember when setting up 4 surround speakers:

Follow the layout diagram in the 950's instruction manual: side speakers directly to the sides of the primary listening area; rear speakers on the back wall, spread at least 30 degree away from the centre line. This is the exact same 7.1 layout recommended by Fosgate, Dolby, Lexicon, Meridian, etc.

Also, since the 950 only has a single time alignment setting for all four surrounds, enter the distance to your closest surround speaker. This may give a slightly larger delay than needed for a couple of the surrounds but that's much better than having too short of a delay (where the precedence effect could make the surrounds distracting).
