ok i have foregone the onkyo txsr700 in favor of the outlaw 950, and thanks to all of you I DO hear a big difference. Now all i have to do is figure out the channel trim thing and i could be in sonic heaven...at last.! im running Klipsch Rf7s so the trim thing is all important as i dont want the sound to bright.Ill have to fool around with it to get that warm and fuzzy feeling. The surround is incredible in CR mode.any suggestions on the crossover issue would be welcome too, so if anyone has the Klipsch reference line for speakers give me a shout on how you set yours up. thanks and ill be tweaking for the rest of my life now!!

Sounds like you are off to a good start. The are a lot of people here that could provide much help in your setup if they had a little more infomation to work with. Are you running 5.1, 7.1? Do you have a sub woofer? etc...

Congrats on the new 950, ric.

I would definitely recommend getting an SPL meter from Radio Shack if you haven't already - it makes the channel trim adjustment process much easier and more accurate.

Crossovers... Well, the RF7\'s are rated down to 32Hz, which is similar to my Paradigm's lower limit. When I had an SVS 25-31PCi, I used the 40Hz crossover because it offered the best sound on music (60Hz yielded a bit of boominess). With the LFM-1, I use a 60Hz crossover and have found it to provide a smoother integration between mains and sub for two-channel as well as a great balance in movies. I'm guess you also have the RC-7 center channel, which is rated down to 45Hz - for that, I'd start at 80hz but you might also try 60Hz just for fun.

wonderful piece of equipment, its all hooked up and preforming very well with my Klipsch reference series speakers, along with the svs 20-39pci sub. The b&k amps mate very well and thanks for the crossovers at different sets of speakers. incredible sound. glad i made the jump.

I have the RF-3s & RC-3 along with a Velodyne CT-150.
I'm using Marantz MA-500 monoblocks which match well with the Klipsh. I have the crossover set at 80Hz for all and the speakers set to small. I tweaked the sub crossover frequency a bit until I got a blend that seemed pretty smooth to me - no boominess but enough punch to rattle the walls (and the neighbors) when I need it.

An SPL meter and Outlaw's very well written section on this makes doing speaker calibration a breeze.
