I'm reviewing the 1050, but have been away from the "scene" for a while...could someone give a brief list of the 1050's primary competition (say, up to about $1,000 street price)? I know that there were a couple of new devices (Onkyo, Denon?) due out a few months back and am just wondering so that I can begin my comparative research prior to making a purchase.

Many thanks in advance.

-Larry

Well sorry, I've just read down a few posts and have promptly come up with a list based on several earlier threads.

I'd still take a comprehensive list, but either way...I've got a start.

One other question...regarding rumors...is there a 1050 replacement in the works....? A few months this way or that I could wait......

We know of no replacement in the works. The Outlaws have publicly disavowed the existance of such, as well.

Of course, it will eventually be replaced, but I wouldn't count on it happening soon.

As the 1050 stands now it is a good receiver and I enjoy mine very much. The only things that need to be updated IMO would be to add dts-es and DPL-II and then scrap the awful volume knob. Other than that the unit itself is solid, there has been very few failures that I have heard about and it has plenty of power. So all and all it is a fine receiver it is just a smidge out of date with regard to DSPs'.
It seems to hold its own with the other receivers in its class, although now there are quite a few out there at the 500 mark that offer 6.1 and DPL2 but they seem to sacrifice somewhere the new Onkyo has no preouts, the new Sony doesn't seem as powerful as the Outlaw and etc...as far as a list I will bang one up later although my first hand experiance is limited to 2 or 3 units but I'm sure there will be plenty of opinions for ya.

Well here is a work in progress list of receivers:

ONYKO TX-SR600
SONY STR-DE1075
Sony STR-DA2ES
DENON AVR-1803

The above receivers are all right around the 500 mark give or take. Anyone else have suggestions?
Also 1 thing to note I believe that the Sony ES line will be the only one to offer a 5 year warranty.

Edit: I corrected my error of 1050 having a 5 year warranty it is 2 years.

I have seen several references to the 5 year warranty in ragard to the 1050 however I think the 1050 does not have a 5 year warranty. Mine says it has a 2 year warranty. I think all other Outlaw equipment has a 5 year but not the 1050.

Very true, desperado. The 1050 has a two year warranty. The 950 warranty is for five years. Same is true for the amps and the ICBM.

Thank you.

Looking at Onkyo's site I noticed the TX-NR900 which sounds like an interesting creature.

There are some great setups out there...I just want Outlaw to come out with a 1060! (or whatever...)

Other receivers I have seen are from Marantz.
The SR7200, SR6200, SR5200 are the best candidates.

Well have you research the NAD brand,i believe is the same as Outlaw in terms of sound quality, more better features, but similar sound. Now you will not get the same customer service as Outlaw, but is some thing to consider.
