Just Received my 1050 -

Temporarily setting up with circa-1996 Mordaunt-Short bookshelf speakers
Seeking opinions & guidance on following:

(1) Live in a multi-unit condominium - looking for sub unit for bass - but need to omit units generating seismic-quality output out of obvious consideration for neighbors. Presently looking at Acoustic Research 8” 120W ARS108PS (down firing) and Mirage 8” 100W LF-100 (front firing). Is my reasoning correct that with an 8” sub and controlling volume I can blend reasonable bass with my front/surround speakers without creating a neighbor crisis? I realize I sacrifice quality with a smaller sub and reduced gain – but is a “reasonable” response with grasp? -- Any opinions on my current sub choices? Others I may consider? Opinions on downward firing vs. front firing?

(2) As to fronts/surrounds - anyone experienced with mirage OMNISATS? Listened to them at a dealer & was impressed but only compared them with the Boston Acoustic 9000 system (which, for their price – also impressed me). Unable to locate user reviews for OMNISATS on the web. Has anyone used them with a 1050 receiver?

You might consider a 'real' sub and put an EQ inline so you can dynamicly, in your own house etc. adjust the lower limit. Just a thought. Would also allow the sub to move with you gracefully if you ever find more bass friendly surroundings.

Beringer makes a well regarded DSP based parametric and graphical EQ gizmo for around $200.

Ive got the Pro-Sub 100 from Definitive Tech. Its a 10 inch woofer and sounds good with my 1050. Might be the size your looking for.

I haven't done much sub searching, but I've got BA's System 9000 you heard and I've been nothing but pleased with it. Between the sub's level control and the 1050's sub control, I can go from practically non-existent to too much for the better half. If you go that route, there's a connection trick someone else in this community found (forgot who!) that drastically improves the sound of the front L and R speakers.
