Ok gurus
I know this has been asked
I have an Advent TV. I am trying to control it with the 950 remote. No luck. I have tried the auto search. No luck. I have tried "learning" the on/off. No luck. Help.

Am I doing something wrong? Let's say I am watching a dvd and want to turn off my vcr. I have everything programmed in the 950 remote. when I try to power down my vcr my audio changes from the dvd to the vcr. Does the 950 "jump in" everytime you switch from one device to another? confused

The first stop when getting familiar with the 950's remote should be to grab a copy of the official SL-9000 manual , since that manual provides more detailed information about how this remote behaves and what it is capable of.

There doesn't appear to be a code for an Advent TV (in either the 950's manual or the SL-9000 manual), so I would recommend going straight to learning for it. Give page 40 of the 950's manual and page 13 of the SL-9000's manual (page 14 in the PDF file) a close read and see what you can do. Does the TV use separate buttons for power on and power off, or is there a single power on/off command?

The device buttons on the top of the remote serve two purposes: telling the remote what device to control, and telling the 950 what input to use. It takes a little getting used to, and some people don't care for it, but it can actually be a very user-friendly approach. (It's particularly good for spouses and other family members, as they don't have to remember to go to one place to change the 950's input and another place to control whatever device they are trying to use.) I have set up my MX-500 remote to behave the same way, and it works very well for me. On the rare occasions when I need to send a command to a device different from the one I'm using (such as turning on the DVD player while watching cable), I simply cover the front of the remote with my hand when I hid the device button on the remote.

Thanks, very helpful. When I paid close attention to the green flashing light to say it took and the red flashing to say it didn't take it worked. Thanks again.

I don't know the answer to your question but I purchased a Logitech Harmony remote and it controls absolutely everything from just one remote. You might consider that for the future or something similar..it sure made my life much easier.

wingnut772,

If you have a 950 how completely does the Harmony control it with the code for it? Did you have to do a lot of learning to make it OK?

Jeff

Well the 950 is coming Tuesday. Right now I have an Onkyo 701 as a pre/pro but the Harmony does list Outlaw on their site on their list of components to program. It is pretty complete with my Onkyo . I have no need for other remotes. It really is pretty nifty. Once I recieve my 950 and have it all set up I will post and let you know how thorough it is but it should be fine.

I have managed in some fashion to disable the aud button on my 950 remote. The other top row buttons operate as I have programmed them(had my 950 since Sept 2002) But not the aud. I cannot turn the system on or off by the remote. The tuner only engages from the front panel. The up and down FM channels do not work except from the 950. Aux for my phono preamp also must be operated from the 950.

My biggest crisis: the 6 channel input, working only via the remote, does not work, with no 6 channel, my SACD player won't play SACD.

Pressing the aud+Sel button lights up the CD button, same thing for aud+power. I have installed new batteries, done everything except an entire reset of the remote.

I've looked at the SL9000 manual and Outlaw isn't listed there.

Any advice?

It sounds like the AUD device may have gotten reprogrammed. Before you do a full reset, you might try running this past Outlaw support to see if they can give you a remote code that will fix the AUD device without wiping out all your other programming.

It’s likely reprogramming did happen somewhere along the line. I emailed support, and Steve asked me a similar question (no mention of remote codes), did I create any macro commands using the 950's power key in the command string? I am going attempt to clear the macro buttons before again take up the issue with him.
