Hello All, Today I receieved my Denon DVD-2900 player got it hoked up to my 950. I'm totally new to the hi-res multi-channel music arena. I threw in the Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon SACD and I was completely blown away. I mean, wow.
I know this is the 950 forum, but I thought it appropriate to post these resluts. The 950 continues to amaze me. Now with a higher end universal player, this things more than shines. The 2900 and 950 sound so good together it makes me wonder how I got along with my Panny DVD-RP56 for so long. The two players are not even in the same league.
I have the all speakers set to large (sub on) and the filter turned off on the 2900, and on the 950 I have the analog BM turned on.. I'm using a set of 6-channel Blue Jeans cables to hook my 2900 to my 950. (Audioquest cables between the 950 and my Rotel amp.)
Anyway, thanks for listening.
Later, Simp.

I'm glad you too are enjoying your 950. I think you might want to reconsider leaving all of your speakers at "large": See these threads: link link2 But basically, your sub can respond to lower frequencies than can the rest of your speakers. By setting the speakers to "small" you can redirect sound from below the crossover freqency to the sub. It might not make a big difference, but it's worth experimenting with. And remember, setting your speakers to small isn't a slight against them or your manhood :p Frequency response of your speakers DM604 S3 39Hz - 22kHz ± 3dB LCR600 S3 60Hz - 22kHz ± 3dB DM302 72Hz - 22kHz ± 3dB Depending on how you have tuned your HSU VTF-3 MK2 Sub, it responds down to 18Hz and 25Hz

Thanks for the responses guys. I have my speakers set up as follows in the 950:
All set to small. Fronts at 60 Center at 60 Sorrounds at 80
I've got the speakers set to large in the 2900 so that it sends full freq. and lets the 950 do the bass management. Do others have their payers set up in this way? Seems to sound good this way.
Later, Simp

painttoad, I am extremely pleased with the 604's. I auditioned several different speakers in my home before purchasing and I kept going back to them. At the risk of starting a break-in debate, it seemed that it took some time for them to really open up. And they do enjoy much power. But when you turn them up, they really sing. It took me some time to get them set up right in my room. But the sound is very detailed. They have certainly told me what CD's I have that are well recorded and which aren't.
later, simp

painttoad, yeah, i have probably 3 dozen old punk cd's that i don't really give much playing time to anymore. i think it's for a couple of reasons. as i've gotten older my musical tastes have changed quite a bit. but every now and again i'll pull out an old social distortion or dag nasty cd and give it a listen. as much as i do enjoy the music, i find it much easier to listen to something that is well put together. that's not to say that the b&w's don't sound good with all music, but those old cd's just weren't recorded well. good for the garage, not so good for my listening room...

I have the 2900 and the 950 as well but I use the BM in the Denon because the 950 introduce serious phase problem like invert polarity on the sub out using the 6 ch input.
