It's possible to set all speakers to large and still have output on the subwoofer? because when i set front speaker to small the subwoofer turns on in stereo mode automatically.

It's only possible to have all speakers set to large and still have output at the sub if there is a dedicated .1 LFE channel. When any speaker is set to large, that disables any bass management for the speaker and thereby prevents any signal from being re-routed from it to the sub.

But when you set all speakers to large the subwoofer option in the menu turns off, those this don't avoid the .1 signal to the subwoofer if it's present in the original signal?, then the subwoofer option in the menu should be name redirect bass o bass management?

I haven't ever turned all the speakers to large to try this, but it sounds like you are seeing the sub automatically turn off when all speakers are large? Is that correct?

For the sub to be off, the mains must be set to large because that is where the .1 channel is redirected when there is no sub.

Yes, the sub automatically turn off when all speakers are large. so there's no way to have all the speakers set to large and still have the .1 signal sent to the subwoofer?

That's the way it sounds, at least for the digital bass management, but it's an odd arrangement ("large" surrounds and centers are nearly unheard of, so usually at least some of those speakers are set to small) and I'm not sure if that automatic "off" on the sub means that the sub's LFE is redirected to the mains or if it is passed unaltered to the sub. I'd have to experiment a bit to know for sure.

There are two choices (ignoring for a moment "small" speakers):

all large, sub on (or present)
all large, sub off (or, not present)

The first gives you a signal to the sub if there is a signal present in the LFE channel of a soundtrack. The second reroutes any LFE to the other channels. ??

Are you asking for DVD's or CDs?

This seems a good research item ( and a potential change to new model pre/pro) as it relates to the 950's processing. And while I agree that many speaker set ups do not involve full range/large speakers across the front (or surrounds) there is always the possibility of doing so. For example Def Tech speakers with powered subs in them would include the L/R fronts and the centers for a lot of their speakers.
My experience with my 950 is that I have to set these speakers (L/C/R) to small to get any signal to the sub. Which is not alwyas desirable since I could run full to the 3 fronts since they have 8" powered subs in all.
I think that the 950 limits this ability. It's either set to Small to get LFE routed to sub or its Large and then there is no sub to be selected when you calibrate.

I just set the front, center, and surround speakers to large on my 950. The sub is still listed as "on". That matches my expectation - that it is possible to set the 950 up with all channels full range while using a sub for the LFE track.

JulioCat, if your 950's behavior does not match this (starting out at all channels small and the sub on, then switching the channels to large without changing the sub's setting), I'd suggest contacting Outlaw's tech support.

I just went and checked this out too and my formed post here is all wrong. Like Gonk, I can set to large and have sub stay on. I was thinking (spelled"confused") of all the trouble-shooting I had done this week with my sub not working and it is when you have the L/C/R set to small that the 950 sets the sub to ON and will not allow it to be set OFF...not the other way around.

After tinkering with my system today I'm tending to disagree with some of these comments on bass management. If possible I hope someone will try and duplicate what I'm experiencing.
While watching a music DVD (Trans-Siberian) I went into the Outlaw setup screen for speaker setup. I have all speakers set to Large, Sub ON and 40Hz selected for all crossovers. These settings are typically what I run and I should mention the speakers are close to full range and the subs are dedicated LFE. While listening to the music the crossover for the fronts can be changed from 40 to 150Hz in one step and you can hear and see a huge difference in what the subs play. Changing the fronts from Large to Small (with the crossover at 150Hz) had little effect on the sub output but it did have an effect on reducing the fronts bass output. This indicates to me that somehow the 950 redirects some bass even when all speakers are set too large. Turning the sub OFF kills all output to the LFE as it should.
I was part of a forum discussion on this subject about a year ago but I can't find the thread. This should be easy for most anyone to test, just set all speakers to Large, Sub ON and toggle the crossover from 40 to 150HZ while feeling the subwoofer cone and see if you notice a difference.
If there are any suggestions on a different setup to try I will be happy to do so.
