I recently purchased a Universal Remote Control model URC-300 Customizer. It actually has a setup code for Outlaw, which is 342. When I tried to use that code nothing happened. I suspect it may be for the old 1050. The URC-300 can learn most of the 950 remote buttons but it does not switch inputs, which is real frustrating. Does anyone know how I can find the setup code for the 950?

Gonk,
You had recommended the 342 code to me when I got my MX-500. It WILL turn the 950 off but that's all. Frankly, "learning" the 500 is so easy and intuitive (now that I've messed with it a while) that I'd say that's the way to go anyway. Also, I want to use certain "strange" button choices to store little used-commands. The codes generally don't provide for that.

Thanks gonk and JMS. Now that I've had the remote for a few days, I'll try learning the buttons now that I'm not in such a hurry.

gonk - I sat down last night and got the URC-300 to learn every button I threw at it. I'm finally back to one remote. YEAH!

I too am extremely pleased with myself now that my MX-500 has macros that will turn on/off the video system and turn on/off the music system, all with one touch of a specific macro button. I even got the remote to land back on the transport controls with punch through volume. Once I got the hang of it, programming that baby is easy.
Since I also programmed it to work an old crt in my ht room, the 500 replaced four remotes. This is great!

Hello everyone, I am new here and looking at purchase the 950 and 7100 combo. I am seeing that some of yourselves have had issues programming the remote or another remote. Are there any other issues with these two pieces that need to ne considered before buying them?

The 950's remote is actually a very good remote, especially when bundled with a pre/pro for only $800. A number of us have upgraded to other remotes from the same manufacturer (Universal Remotes) - didjdude is using their new URC-300 remotes, while JMS and I (and many others, in fact) use the Home Theater Master MX-500. The 950/7100 combo is a very nice package. The only issue I see tripping folks up from time to time is a quirk in the six channel analog input that causes it to only output the left and right channels if you switch to the six channel analog input from an input that is operating in stereo mode. If you toggle to the six channel analog input from a source running any sort of surround mode (Dolby 5.1, DTS, Pro Logic, 5/7 Stereo, whatever), you will get all six channels. Otherwise, I would suggest looking at a few of the following threads (if you haven't already): What would you tell a prospective 950 buyer? and Let me start by apologizing . There are other threads floating around that are worth reading, but those are the first two that caught my eye. And of course if you have questions about any of the 950's features, there are usually folks around here who can answer 'em.

Hi Gonk,
Sorry for the late reply but the URC-300 is an excellent remote. It learned every button from 5 other remotes and it is extreamly easy to use. I would highly recommend it.

342 is the right code for a URC MX500, but that code is not in the stock unit. You will have to send the unit back to URC to have them update the codes for the newer devices you have. I just sent my MX500 in to be updated with codes for my Motorola-Moxi DVR (111), Philips PW34850 HDTV (259), and the Outlaw 950 (342). When I get the unit back I will be able to select the code which will provide all of the functions.
