Hi Guys,
New Outlaw here with a noobie question. I have been lurking here since I got my 950/7100 combo and just from reading other posts, I have my system set-up just about spot-on. But, I just added a universal disc player (Integra dpc-8.5) and can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. When using the analog input on the 950 what format should I be in to get a direct multi-channel signal? 5-stereo, 7-stereo, etc?

Thanks in advance,
Todd

When playing a source into the six-channel analog input, you will want to hit the "6CH" button on the 950's remote to switch the 950 to that input. At that point, the 950 continues to use whatever video input was already selected (typically "DVD") for the video switching and uses the six-channel analog input for audio. The 950's display will report "BYPASS" because you are bypassing all DSP.

A small additional point, Noloft.

Before you hit 6CH, be sure you're in a multi-channel processing mode e.g. Dolby DD/Dolby PL2, DTS, or Stereo 5/7. If you are in a two-channel mode, such as Stereo, the 950 will only activate two of the six analog channels.

It's an eccentricity of the circuit design, apparently.

While we’re discussing the 6 channel input, here’s another aspect of its eccentricity: it is accessible only from the remote as far as I can tell. I hate to be at the mercy of the remote. Particularly one that has been dropped too many times to count, inundated with brown beverage, and sofa cushion lost more than once.

Is there some way to activate 6 CH from the 950 itself?

The only way that I know of to engage the six channel analog input is the button on the remote. Fortunately, the 950's remote is tough. (Mine got dropped on the floor and buried in the sofa a lot of times back before I retired it to the "remote drawer" last year, and the remote I replaced it with - an MX500 made by the same people who made the 950's SL9000 remote - has fared equally well in spite of bouncing off hardwood floors on multiple occasions.) And even if something bad does happen, Outlaw will take care of you. They're cool that way.
