Guys,

I have a polk audio center channel, CSI5. I know it should be set to small, but what would be the preferred xover point on the 950 for the center.

Here is a link to all the info. on the center channel.

The -3dB point on the Polk CSI5 is 55Hz. One rule of thumb I've seen often is to double the -3dB point, which would be around 110Hz. I'd start with setting the crossover at 100Hz.

Gonk,

Wow!! Double the -3dB point...looks like I should reconsider some of my crossover settings.

So, I guess if -3dB is 92Hz X 2 = 184Hz I should consider 150Hz for my crossover?

Thanks

It sounded odd to me as well the first time I heard it, but it makes some sense when you think about what being at -3dB means. A 3dB drop represents a halving of the volume level, so it makes sense to pick a crossover point that moves at least some distance away from that point. I typically haven't stayed completely true to the doubling guideline, but I've had good luck using a point not too far removed from it. In your example, speakers with a -3dB point of 92Hz would probably benefit from a crossover of at least 120Hz, but it might take some experimenting to find what point works best in your case.
