I am trying to figure out how the 950B works in regards to extended surround channels.

I currently have a 7.1 speaker system.

When playing a DTS-ES track of a DVD, which is a 6.1 format, does the 950B send the rear center channel information to both of the rear speakers or is the rear center channel information dropped and the track reduced to a 5.1 format?

Is the only way to obtain 7.1 playback to use one of the surround formats with the Cirus Surround addition?

Jim

DTS-ES, Dolby EX, and CES all will provide a surround back channel with the Model 950. With a DTS (ES or 5.1) track, you can choose to apply either ES or CES, and with a Dolby 5.1 or DD-EX track you can use to use EX or CES. With stereo tracks, you can apply DTS NEO:6 or use Pro Logic II and add CES to that to get surround back. With a 7.1 setup, both surround back channels get the same signal when using all of the above formats.

Thank you for the information and clarification Gonk.

If a standard 5.1 track has ES (DTS), EX (DD), or CES applied to it, will the 950 extrapolate the rear center channel information or simply replay the side surround information to the rear surrounds?

Each of the three processing modes uses a different method of generating a rear center channel that is separate from (albeit obviously derived from) the surround channels.
