What is the purpose of this switch? How does it work? I was reminded
of it when I re-read this article:
http://www.guidetohometheater.com/amplifiers/147/index.html.

How do you recommend setting up the 950? What about the suggestion in
the article?

Have you had the opportunity to read the 950's manual, available online?

See page 34.

I'm not sure what suggestion in the article you are looking at. They do mention the analog bass management switch, but only briefly. As they suggest, turning it "on" will enable a crossover that re-routes material below 80Hz from the five full-range channels to the subwoofer. If you are using the six-channel analog input and have a subwoofer connected to the 950, I would strongly recommend turning it on. If you do turn it on, make sure that the six-channel analog source (DVD-Audio or SACD player) is not also performing some bass management -- in other words, set all speakers to "large" at the player and leave the sub "on" at the player.
