Hello, I have had my new 1050 for a couple of weeks now and would like some input on a few things I"m seeing..

First when playing dvd's, I am seeing both the DD and prologic icons lit up. Should I be seeing this?? Only one dvd that I have played so far has shown 6.1

Also I seem to want to run my surrounds a few more db higher than calibration settings to hear them. (still need to get used to this, it might be that they are just more transparent at the calibrated settings). I only ask about this to make sure there is nothing wrong with the unit.

All in all this thing is SWEET!. My room is large (28x32x10) and it's filling this place up with sound..

Thnaks For any input!

Glad you like your 1050!

As for the DD and Pro Logic thing, I'd check to see if the DVD is playing 5.1 audio or 2.0. If it is a Dolby Digital 2.0 track (which many DVD's default to), the 1050 will report a DD signal and use Pro Logic to get surround info. If you choose a 5.1 track from the DVD menu, you should only see DD.

Very few DVD's actually have 6.1 tracks, and some of those don't even include flags to identify it. If you want to make use of Surround 6.1, you can manually select it on 5.1 tracks and it will create a surround back channel. The Surround 6.1 is usually pretty effective.

I wouldn't worry about the surround settings -- probably just personal preference.

Thanks Gonk,

I think I figured out my problem, I couldn't manually select 6.1, but I guess that you have to have the rear center turned on to invoke 6.1. Gonna try that later.

I would like to hook my 10 channel equalizer to this system. How should I hook it up.

And yes by all means do I like the 1050. If I had a bigger budget I'm sure I would try the 950. But new house, new furniture, new sound system, it and an amp will have to wait.

Thanks

I know that some DVD menus will have sound encoded in ProLogic and the 1050 will show that. Then when you start the movie, the 1050 will switch to DD (if it's encoded that way). That may be what you're seeing.

Welcome to the Outlaw family!

sparkyfan: That would be tough as the 1050 has no pre out/main in circuit.

If you have an amp, it wouldn't be too hard to put the eq in between the 1050 and the amp. Without an amp, pepar's right. There isn't even a tape loop in the 1050.

ya, I've noticed the lack of inputs.. This really isn't a big deal to me. I can just put the EQ inline with the cd player which is where I would use it most anyway. This whole system is really starting to warm up and sound good. I've had some reservations but as my 30 days is coming to a close, I think it's going to stay. Then I can throw the money I might have spent on a more expensive processor towards getting an amp. I think the definition would really pick up at that point and it would add punch to help overcome my extremely large room.. (plus I need a TV)..

I think that is a good plan. An amp is a great thing to have. Plus, it gives you an upgrade path to put in a pre/pro when you're ready.

I should have added that I have a friend of mine who has been building a system at the same time as me. Except he has gone locally and they set him up with a B&W / Klipsch setup. He has spent some major bucks. Only justice is when he came over here and said "damn, wish mine sounded like that". I'm taking that as a good thing..
