Good Day everyone,

New to this forum, and first time owner of Outlaw equipment. I just received my 950 & 7100 yesterday and WOW!! I'm very happy. I have a question for anyone with the 950 and a Denon 2200 DVD player. My speakers are Zetag, Kinimas with 5" drivers. How did you set up this combination for CD and DVD-A/SACD playback?:
- (950) bass management on or off
- (2200) Speaker set to large/small or Filter OFF
- (2200) Speaker levels (are they adjusted here or in the 950)
- (2200) Sub settings

If you have any suggestions on other settings that I might have missed please let me know.

Thank you in advance,
Steve

Steve,

I have the 950/7100 and the Denon 2200. For optimal SACD listening, I place the 950 in 6 channel direct and set all the speakers to small in the 2200's setup. I'm pretty sure this sets the cross over to 80 Hz. I don't have the system in front of me, but I can get you my exact settings in a week or so when I get back. I would just recommend trying different configurations and use whatever sounds best. Have fun with the new equipment.

Regards,
Matt

TVG,

You should at least try setting the player's speaker setup to all sats 'large' and sub 'on', or 'yes', whatever the case may be in the 2200.

Set the analog BM switch on the 950 to 'on'.

From a multi-channel digital mode, hit 'bypass'.

I'm sorry, I don't know what 'filter' means in the 2200's menu.

Some folks have had a reversal of polarity (or, a 180 degree phase shift to the SW output when in this configuration, so you might want to check that in your system).

The 950's 5.1 analog bypass mode for SACD/DVD-A MC audio, with it's analog BM engaged is it's strong point, IMO.

In fact, I let my player do all of the format decoding and play it through the 950 this way for all MC sources.

Set speaker levels in the player to '0', and calibrate levels in with the 950 calibration menu, using the 950's pink noise calibration tones (or outboard disc, if you prefer).

Then, level to your ears, per disc, using the 950's channel trim menu (which will also affect the calibration menu's levels).

Hope this helps. Let us know what discs you like, etc., if you don't mind.

I've used the same basic method as bossobass for DVD-Audio playback, and I think it's a pretty good approach due to the 950's bass management.

Thanks Matt, bossobass and gonk for the reply.

So basically, I should on the Denon 2200:
Set the speakers to all large and the sub on.
Set all speaker levels to 0db (might set the sub a bit higher).
Set all speaker distances to the same value.

Then on the 950:
Put bass management on.
Calibrate with the 950 test tones, or my avia disk.
Use the 6 channel direct button (on remote) (from a multichannel mode eg DVD).

Does that sound correct?

bossobass, as for disks I like, I've just gotten into dvd-a/sacd so I have Diana Krall and a Shania Twain DVD-A, and Concord Records SACD Sampler. As for other music, I listen to a varity of different music, country, reggae, rap, rock, jazz, indian, calypso etc. My wife, daughter and I usually have the system running about 6-8hrs a day.

Thanks again
Steve

Yes, I think you've got a handle on it.
