I am putting together a VMPS system (RM 40's as mains, LRC as Center Channel, Dipoles as Surrounds, and QSO Ribbons in the rear.

I am considering running an Outlaw Audio 950 Pre w/ a Outlaw Audio 770 amp. Would this setup pair well with the VMPS speakers? Is anyone out there using a similar VMPS/Outlaw combination?

Any input is appreciated!

There aren't a lot of VMPS users around here; they get mentioned occasionally but are pretty rare. I did a search of the forum and found a couple of people using them - threers uses them with a 950 and 770 , NiceGuywithEars has a VMPS sub , jgubman has them and a 950 (he's posted several times). Based on jgubman's experience, the VMPS may require you to do some experimenting with the bass management (which is a good idea for most any speaker combination) -- they will probably want to be run as "large". It looks like a completely workable combination.

Writing you a reply email right now. Summary is, I've found best results using the 950's stereo bypass mode and using an ICBM for bass management. Allows me to cross the RM-40s at 40Hz w/ no double bass. RM-40s can certainly be run full range, but I like the flexibility of being able to position subs near room boundries and the RM-40s more out in the open.

I've never used the 770, but don't think you'll have a problem. I use a Earthquake Cinenova Grande (similar but more powerfull, 300w @ 8ohm, 600w @ 4ohm) but I really, really doubt you'll have a problem w/ 300w.

I think there's a user or two over there that has experience w/ this amp.

Anyway, I think the 950 and VMPS make for a great combo. Certainly audiophile quality on an extreme budget. I'm very happy with my current set-up.
