Question regarding the test tone -- is the 950 supposed to produce an *identical* test tone for all channels (or at least the front 3).

I'm running a 950 + 755 and three identical speakers for L-C-R (M&K SP-150's). I'm surprised that the center channel seems to sounds a bit higher in the test tone.

Does any one else that run identical amp+speaker for Left-Ctr-Right experience the same?

The volume of the test tone on each channel depends on where you have the trims set - you're supposed to set the main volume at "0" and adjust the trims for 75dBc for each channel.

Do you mean higher volume or higher frequencies in the noise?

Yes, the test tone is identical. Differences in individual speakers, room placement and area acoustics account for whatever differences you are hearing. Your amplifier setup might also influence things if you're using multiple amps or different brand amps across the front.

As Soundhound mentions, changing the trim level changes the output level, which is how you calibrate the system for proper speaker-to-speaker balance.

nothing should surprise you :-), it's always nice to find out more than you knew before. test tones are the same sound just redirected through different channels, so if you have the gains adjusted properly you would ideally hear that same sound on each speaker (that is identical) directly in front of the speaker. however we all know that nothing is ideal, and a center channel in the same series is not identical to a main in that series, if it were it would be a main and not a center. lots of things impact sound, more than just specs and materials...
