Surroundophile raises an excellent point. Denon has historically started with Panasonic chassis (no Pioneer hardware influence) and built from there, although the 5900 is likely predominantly original. The Denon 2900 did have an issue (mentioned several places, including here ) with a subwoofer output that was 10dB lower than it should be in an attempt to compensate for "hot" movie mixes. A review here indicates that there is a 10dB attenuation "toggle" on the 5900 in lieu of this permanent attenuation, which may be mgdurand's "SUB ENHANCE" setting. mgdurand - are you using the six-channel input for movie watching? I wouldn't expect the sub enhance setting to affect digital audio output, and by using the 950's processing for movies you may be able to use the Denon's sub trim controls to get a satisfactory amount of bass for DVD-A and SACD (keeping in mind that the LFE track on a DVD-A or SACD disc is likely to be less active than a movie soundtrack's LFE).
