Jason,
The subwoofer crossover was active.
All of my AV “sources” went into a Sony 6 x 6 active matrix switchbox. The audio output of the switchbox was fed into the active crossover and the low base channels (low pass stereo) was fed to a stereo power amplifiers which in turn, drove the 15” Heath subs.
The high-pass stereo from the crossover was connected to the surround sound processor.
The crossover point was set for around 80Hz
Perhaps this is exactly how I should do it when I hook up my 950. I.e. let my active crossover etc. take care of the low base.
Or I could let the “base management” feature of the 950 produce a “mono” subwoofer signal and use the line level y-splitter that gonk suggests.
Why two subwoofers? Well after you get used to the base that two subs the size of the Heath’s can produce (They are 6’ tall) you kind of get spoiled.
Gonk,
Thanks for the link, I will check out this thread.
