Hi all, well, after a year of happy ownership I decided to open the hood and have a look inside. What a found was a little disturbing. One of the resistors in the unit is burned up. Everything seems to be working fine so that leaves me a little perplexed. Resistors are a easy fix I know, but, I'm not one to do such work. I don't own a soldering iron and I've never attempted work like this before. I live in New York and would rather not have to ship this unit back to CA. I'm not sure which section this resister is affecting as I have not noticed any changed. Nor do I know if I received the unit in said fashion. I have pictures on the web which may be found by copying and pasting these links..... Sorry for the copy/paste but I don't see how to enable html....

From the pictures, it does not appear that the resistor is burned, but just has some dark stuff covering the end of the resistor. This would be harmless.

A burned resistor will have a dark discoloration around it's center and it will look more obviously like something was heated up. A resistor that gets hot is not necessairly defective however. The large resistor in your pictures is made to dissipate about a watt of power. None of them look like they actually got very hot at all.

You might contact Outlaw about it, but from the looks of the pictures, there is nothing burned.

Thanks for the reply SoundHound!!! I E-mailed outlaw with links to the aforementioned pictures. Within a half hour Steve answered my email and it is of his opinion that it is simply solder flux. He went on to explain several other things too.. One just has to love the exceptional service that the Outlaws provide!! Best Regards

Arry, as an EE, I agree with Soundhound.

As an audiophile, I still agree with Soudhound.

And as just plain Me, I still agree with Soundhound.

Paul
