Hello everyone, I'm going to upgrade my HT. right now I'm using Denon 3803 with Denon 2900 DVD player, Klipsch Reference series speaker (RF-35, RC-35, RW12 and RS-35).

Will the speakers and dvd player work well with 950/770 combo? right now, when I watch movie, it sounds very good, but when listen to music it seems cold and distant.

Also, 950 almost 2 years old, anyone know are there any new receiver comming soon? hate to put 2k plus and outdate in 6 months.

thanks in advance

The speakers and DVD player would work quite well with the 950/770. With the Denon 2900, you would probably prefer to use a stereo bypass mode for CD's (its Burr-Brown DACs will likely offer somewhat better sound than the 950's DACs) -- but since you'll be connecting the 2900 to the six-channel analog input anyway for DVD-A and SACD that should not be a problem.

The 950 is around two years old now. Outlaw is working on a replacement to their discontinued 1050 receiver, which is due out later this year, but there has been no official announcement about a new pre/pro. The 950 will likely be around for another 18 months or two years, if I had to guess. With the 950/770 combo, however, it's important to keep this in mind: the amp can stay in your system for many, many years. If you find it necessary to upgrade the 950 later, you have only invested $800 in it (or actually $700, in case case of that combo) -- and you could sell a used 950 on someplace like Audiogon for nearly that much. It's a pretty safe investment.

humm... is it more of a side step then upgrade? the 3803 have 12 burr brown, would it be better off I just put in two 200 mono amp for the front? Like I said on my last post, when watching movie, the sound are very good, my only complain is listening to music, It just not good.

Anyone have any expercine with 3803 and 950? are there any sonic difference between the two?

Ahhh, my personal opinion is that the 3803 and 950 are close enough that you might want to wait and see what comes next from Outlaw. IMO, your next receiver/pre-pro should have DPL IIx. But that's just me.

Hmmm...there is Blue-Ray (Japanese), HD-DVD (DVD Forum), EVD (Chinese) and FVD (Taiwan/Microsoft).

Think DVD-A/SACD format war was/is a drag?

I believe the 950 is gonna be a keeper for a long time to come. The 6 ch bypass is excellent, and will no doubt work with any of the above formats.

The 770, likewise, is a bargain that will remain in your rack for as long or longer.

The problem will be with the players and software titles, IMO. The 950/770 will do them all beautifully.

No way I see the 950/770 a sideways move from a Denon 3803.

Buy the combo, A/B it for yourself, and in any case, at least keep the 770.

As far as holding out for anything Dolby, much less their version of another crapola matrix scheme...sheesh.

I second the observation that the 950/770 is not a "sideways" move from the Denon. My last receiver was the Denon 5800. Nice receiver, but the 950/770 was a considerable step up to my aging ears.

The RF35's are rated at 98dB efficient with 125W of power handling -- bi-amping seems excessive for them.
