Hi-Got my sweet Christmas present for myself last week-- a 950 plus a Pioneer universal 563 player-- I'm in movie (and music) heaven!

As an aside, does anyone know if I can use the 950 to output digital data to my computer? I'd rather use the AD converters from the 950 than my computer's (iBook).

Mark

The 950 does have two digital audio outputs (one coax and one optical), but they do not include AD converters. They only provide a copy of digital audio sources, not analog. Sorry.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the system. How's the Pioneer 563 treating you?

the 563 is really nice-- I like quality equipment, and I was not expecting something this fine for a rock-bottom price. Very cool display and good interface. I've only used it for DVDs and CDs so far--I've ordered some SACDs and DVD-As. I did try the analog 5.1 inputs using DVDs. Unlike some others, I have no complaints about CD playback quality--I ditched my CD player.

I'm pretty sure any analog input (other than when analog bypass is selected) is converted to digital. Are you saying that that info is not output via the digital outputs? Bummer.

You are correct that analog inputs are converted to digital unless stereo bypass mode is activated, but the digital outputs are only set up for digital audio signal switching. Here's a tidbit from page 19 of the manual:

Quote:
If your recorder has a digital input jack, connect it to either the coaxial or optical output jack on the preamp/processor. The signal from the selected digital input source of the Model 950 will be sent to the recorder.
